CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (UPI) — Teenage girls who live within half a mile of
a public park are significantly more physically active than other girls,
according to U.S. researchers.

I love seeing the AP Press reports on days when articles like this hit my in box. Now, ten major food and drink makers including Campbell Soup, McDonald’s and Cocoa-Cola will be doing more to promote healthy foods and exercise in their child-oriented advertising campaigns.

76% of workers older than 60 years of age are overweight or obese. However, less than one third of those 40 years of age and younger suffer these health issues. This is one of the conclusions shown in the research of Alberto Cordero of the School of Medicine, and the University Hospital, published in the American Journal of Hypertension, the Revista Espanola de Cardiología [Spanish Journal of Cardiology] and Medicina Clinica [Clinical Medicine]. One-fourth of overweight children may have sleep problems that regular physical activity can largely resolve, researchers say.Research published in the November issue of Obesity shows a surprising 25 out of 100 overweight, inactive children tested positive for sleep-disordered breathing, including telltale snoring. Hey ladies, you know what time I’m talking about and you know how it can leave you feeling discombobulated and uncomfortable. Over the years, it’s been my experience that when you have cramps, bloating and other discomfort – working out is not necessarily high on your list.

Regular structured exercise may allow previously sedentary elderly people to attain significant improvements in their physical functioning and reduce the likelihood they will become disabled in the future, according to findings from a multicenter pilot study presented at the Gerontological Society of America’s annual meeting in Dallas. I love Moms – have I mentioned that? When faced with a need, Maria Sanz, a mother of four, decided to create the fitness magazine she wanted for her kids. Their fitness magazine is called Be Fit Kids and it offers a bimonthly issue with articles of interest for children ages 8 to 14.

A moderate exercise program may reduce the incidence of colds. A study published in the November issue of The American Journal of Medicine, led by researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, found that otherwise sedentary women who engaged in moderate exercise had fewer colds over a one year period than a control group.
